It seems that the spring used to hold the doors open on the 240 is a weak spot, two of the three 240's I've owned suffered from flopping drivers doors. The fix is either getting a hinge from the local boneyard or switching the front and rear hinges. I chose the latter because I almost never carry anything in the rear. The job takes about one hour with basic hand tools. |

Support the doors. Grip the plastic trim on the bottom of the door and firmly pull up, it is held on with clips and will respond to firm upward pressure. Pull off the rubber trim that surrounds the doors. |

Remove the cover to the fuse box. Disconnect the battery!!! Two screws hold the fuse block to the frame, remove the lower and loosen the upper (may be hard to see). There may be some paper covering the access to the hinge bolts remove it so you can feel the bolts. There are three bolts with 12mm heads on them, remove these and the two that hold the hinge to the door. Now gently lift the door and work the hinge out. |

This is the rear door ready to switch the hinge. Plastic sill trim and surrounding trim is removed as with the front. The trim on the pillar behind the drivers seat may be gently pried away from pillar once the surrounding trim is removed. this is easier with the front seat moved fully forward. Same three and two bolt pattern with a gentle lift to remove the hinge. |

Now that you have the hinges out just switch them and tighten everything up. If the alignment is off (count on it) you will have to loosen the three inner bolts just enough to move the door with a hard upward pull (with door almost closed) then re-tighten the bolts, check for proper closure and repeat if necessary. Once the door is aligned screw the fuse block back in place, re-attach the pillar trim, press the trim around the door, and press the trim back on the bottom of the door openings. |
