If your 240 sounds like it's got a rock crusher under the hood every time you turn on the wipers try this fix. It's cheap, about $2 for the crazy glue gel, and a lot faster than running down to the local yard for a motor that may or may not be better. |
Using 10mm socket remove the 3 bolts (1) holding the unit to the fender. Remove the connector (2) |
From inside the car remove the cover above the passenger footwell, remove the spring clip from the wiper arm. Lift the retainer and slide off the arm, undo the philips screw holding the short arm. You can then lift the assembly off the fire wall from the engine compartment side. |
By removing the two screws at the end cap of the motor housing (1) the assembly comes apart. If you hold the armature (2) in place with your finger it will not come out when you take off the housing (3). I wanted to clean the commutator (4) so I opted for complete dissassembly. The offending magnet (5) is ready for cleaning and re-gluing. |
Here you can see the magnet cleaned and ready for re-gluing, all the epoxy did not come off but there was no ridge so I figured clearance would be OK. be sure to get all rust off the inside of the housing also. |
A liberal application of "Crazy Glue gel" and a pair of vise grips, let it cure for about an hour and it is ready to re-assemble. Put it all back together and enjoy quiet wipers. |
