Remove the top and bottom stering column covers, and the pad over the drivers feet. I chose the EZ out method of removing the security bolts. Drill a hole the size required for the EZ out, the one I used required a 7/64th drill. Once the hole is drilled hammer the EZ out into it and turn it with a crescent wrench. Do both sides and the column will be a little loose and you can remove the support under it. |
Make sure you get all the screws out, the support should move freely. I've arrowed the ones in the pic, there are a couple more off to the left that did not get in the shot. When the support is loose move any wires out of the way and shove it back, it takes a little force and manuvering but it will go. |
Once you have it out of the way you can remove the 2 screws holding the clamp to the steering column and start working it out of there. Be sure to mark where it is placed on the column, positioning is critical to the function of the steering lock and replacement of the covers. |
To make re-installation easier I cut slots in the security bolts, as you can see from the lack of holes in them the yard I got these from used long nose Vise Grips to remove them, an alternitive to drill and EZ out, I don't know how well it works as I didn't try it.
Replacement is just the opposit of removal, just be carefull the sharp edges of the support do not cut any wires or your hand. |
