ODOMETER REPAIR
Our "new" wagon had the typical cracked gear on the odometer drive that shows up on so many older Volvos.   I went down to the U-Pull yards and found one with miles on it that were close and installed it.   Since so many folks don't have these resources close to them I decided to undertake "the fix" and doccument it.   It went smoothly for the most part and takes a couple of hours at most not counting the overnight setup time for the JB Weld.

Remove the cluster from the car by taking out the 4 screws hidden by the 2 sqare plates on the right and the facia to the left under the headlight knobs, the knobs just pull off.  The facia just snaps in and out.

Unscrew the screws indicated by the arrows.  This will allow the cluster to come apart.

With the front off the cluster remove these 2 screws and the speedo will drop out into your hand.

This is the offendig gear, sorry about the focus, I'm still learning the limitations of the  new camera.

Using a pencil as a fulcrum take a very small screwdriver and pry the needle off.  DO NOT pry on the round disc at the top, pry at the bottom of the sleve that slides down on the shaft coming out of the speedo.  The disc WILL break if you pry on it.

Remove the 2 small screws indicated by the arrows.

Remove the 3 screws and pull the front off the unit.  There is a shaft running from front to back, pull it apart slowly and watch where it goes.  There are no springs or other surprises that will fly out, it is much simpler than I thought in there.
