The side marker/turn signal lights are a great upgrade, added safety and a cool look. I got these from Volvo World in Canada. They have had to change their name to VLVworld thanks to the litigous bastards at Ford but they are still great. The install is simple, my '88 was not pre-wired for them but it was a quick and easy job. |
The lights come with no plugs (#1) or wiring, I got the plugs from a junk Saab turbo I have seen the same 2 prong plug on 740s on the back of the alternator and in several other cars. They may also be found in larger auto parts stores. If possible take the light with you to ensure proper fit. I used solder and shrink tubing to provide a good water proof joint, add about 6' of wire, better too much than too little. I used green and blue wires for power to match the color codes for the turn signals up front, black is the ground |
The "Volvo" emblem comes off with just a little heat, use a fine gauge (#16) insulated wire or a 1" putty knife protected with an old T-shirt to take it off the body. Goo gone will remove any left over stickum.
Straighten out a wire coat hanger and feed it up into the hole, a slight bend in the hanger will help you get it over the wheel. It will come out just in front of the wheel. |
Here's where it comes out, secure it to either the fender brace (passengers side) or the charcoal canister (drivers side) and feed it up to the engine compartment. Be sure to secure it well and wrap any areas that may come in contact with sharp edges with either electrical tape or the split covering made for protecting wire which is found at any auto parts house. Please note the engine pan was removed for access. |
Here are the 2 halves of the connector for the turn signals (#1) The wires for the signals are blue on one side of the car and green on the other. The white wire is for the running light. Use a crimp on quick splice to connector to connect one of the colored wires from the side light to these wires. Use a crimp on lug to connect the black wire to a screw (#2) |
OK you're done, enjoy the added visibility these provide plus the fact that now your 240 (or 740) doesn't look just like every other one on the road. |
